Recently, my 3C students shared jokes with me during lunch time. Therefore I decided look up some funny jokes and share with them in spare time. “1001 More Cool Jokes” is definitely a good book. The number of jokes found in animals, computers, dinosaurs, doctors and patients, monsters, witches, sport, space, school and many more are amazing! The jokes are categorized into different parts for easy reference. Most of the jokes are short and easy to understand. It is suitable for all young learners to read in leisure time. My favourite section is “School”. There are conversations between teachers and students. They are all commonly found jokes on daily basis. Students make fun of their teachers as they play with the words. There is a section called “Silly Book Titles”. This is quite challenging for the local students as they may not understand the humorous part of how the titles were set. Only the students with a good knowledge of English may find it funny. These jokes are all collected from all over the world. I am sure you will find some special but funny ones to share with your friends! |

A Midsummer’s Night Dream is a play that was written in 1595 by William Shakespeare. It is one of his most popular plays and it is my personal favourite. The story takes place in Athens. Lysander and Demtrius are two young men who love the beautiful Hermia. Hermia loves Lysander but her father wants her to marry Demetrius. Because of this, Hermia and Lysander decide to meet in the woods outside Athens and run away together. However, Helena, who loves Demetrius, learns of this and tells Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander’s plan. The four lovers all go into the woods but what they don’t know is that fairies are living there as well… This is a great story that’s very funny and exciting. There are many fun characters, especially Puck, the servant of the fairy king who likes playing tricks on others, and Bottom, a silly man who thinks he’s a great actor but who is actually bad at acting. A lot of surprising things happen too: someone becomes a donkey and someone falls in love with the donkey. Students who like reading fantasy books or romantic comedies will also like this book. |
