National Security Inculcation, Military Inspiration
To strengthen students’ awareness of national security and deepen their understanding of national affairs and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison, Bethel High School organized a national security education activity on 28 March 2026. Led by teacher Mr. WU Luing, 8 student members of the “National Security Pioneers” from S.2A, S.2B and S.3B joined the programme “National Security Inculcation, Military Inspiration” hosted by Yuen Long District Junior Police Call. The event included a guided tour of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Center in Ngong Shuen Chau and a screening of the national security-themed film Scare Out.
The programme was fully arranged by Yuen Long District Junior Police Call with free round-trip shuttle bus service and buffet lunch provided. During the visit to the exhibition centre, students learned about the history, mission and responsibilities of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison through precious photos, artefacts and multimedia displays. They understood the critical role of the garrison in safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability. Students listened attentively and asked questions actively, gaining a concrete understanding of national defence and security.
Afterwards, all participants watched Scare Out, a national security film directed by Zhang Yimou under the guidance of the Ministry of State Security. The film revolves around a classified intelligence leak and a national security task force’s silent battle to uncover the truth amid internal doubts. It vividly shows the hidden, critical and serious nature of national security work, as well as the dedication and loyalty of national security personnel. The film greatly enhanced students’ sense of national security and pride.
Throughout the activity, the “National Security Pioneers” showed excellent discipline and politeness in proper school sports uniform, fully demonstrating the positive image of Bethel High School students. They expressed that the activity helped them understand that national security is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s stability. As “National Security Pioneers”, they will promote national security knowledge among peers and help build a strong sense of security awareness.
By combining on-site visits and film-based learning, the school has made national security education more relatable and influential. Bethel High School will continue to cooperate with community organisations to launch diversified national security activities, guiding students to uphold an overall view of national security and cultivate patriotic, responsible youth who contribute to Hong Kong’s stability and prosperity.
