The Junior Police Call's AYP Bronze Award Outdoor Training Assessment Journey Successfully Concludes
From March 29 to 30, 2025, Bethel High School and the Junior Police Call (JPC) of the Hong Kong Police Force jointly organized a two-day, one-night "AYP Bronze Award Outdoor Training Assessment Journey." Despite encountering persistent rain and chilly weather during the event, the 12 participating students, led by teachers Ms. Tong Lai Yan and Mr. Wu Luning, overcame the adverse weather and successfully completed various challenges, bringing a satisfactory conclusion to the AYP program for JPC members this academic year.
Facing the Elements: Resilience in Adverse Conditions
Held at Sai Kung Country Park and the Man Yee Training Centre, the camp tested participants’ adaptability as they navigated cold and wet conditions. Activities included orienteering, emergency first aid, knot-tying, and wilderness survival skills, such as constructing rainproof shelters and cooking in challenging environments.
"The weather was tough, but the students showed incredible teamwork and perseverance," said Mr. Wu Luning, one of the supervising teachers. "They encouraged each other, problem-solved on the spot, and proved that they could thrive even in difficult situations."
Skills and Growth: From Theory to Real-World Application
The assessment emphasized practical skills, leadership, and cross-cultural collaboration, with students working in teams to complete tasks. Form 4 student Yau Tsz Yai shared, "Building a tent in the rain was tough—our hands were freezing—but figuring it out together made the success even sweeter!" The program also fostered camaraderie among students from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing the JPC’s values of discipline, mutual support, and community spirit.
Teachers’ Reflections: Lessons Beyond the Badge
Ms. Tong Lai Yan highlighted the broader educational impact: "This wasn't just about earning a badge; it was about learning to stay calm under pressure and push through discomfort. These are life skills that will serve them well beyond school." Bethel High School extends its gratitude to Mr. Au Siu Pui, Mr. CHOW Nai-leung, and Mr. TAN Chi-fung from Public Relations Wing of the Hong Kong Police Force for their support and looks forward to future collaborations that empower students through experiential learning.
Looking Ahead
Bethel High School remains committed to holistic education, combining academic excellence with real-world experiences. The JPC Bronze Camp not only equipped students with practical skills but also reinforced values such as discipline, cooperation, and perseverance.
